Racial profiling presents itself across the globe in many ways. In several cities, states, and even countries racial profiling plays a big role in why many places are falling apart. Article “The Reality of Racial Profiling” discusses how racial profiling is not only seen in Chicago or in local places, it is seen all over the world. “A study in Arizona shows that during 2006-2007, the state highway patrol was significantly more likely to stop African Americans and Hispanics than Whites on all the highways studied, while Native Americans and persons of Middle Eastern descent were more likely to be stopped on nearly all the highways studied. The highway patrol was 3.5 times more likely to search a stopped Native American than a White, and 2.5 times more likely to search a stopped African American or Hispanic.” This proves that minority races are targeted and others are off the hook even when the “others” are the ones creating most of the crime blacks and latino/as are blamed for.
Racial profiling not only occurs locally, but it is a global issue that needs to be handled. In Sanford, Florida, a young African-American man by the name of Trayvon Martin was fatally shot and killed because he was walking with a hood on, with skittles, and an iced-tea in hand. The shooter, George Zimmerman stated “I saw a black male approximately 5’11 to 6’2 casually walking in the rain” All because a person of a different race felt threatened, an innocent man was gunned down and killed because of the clothing he wore. Impacts of racial profiling can socially tear apart families, communities, and even things as big as countries fighting against one another. Social impacts on racial profiling can affect friends families, neighbors, communities, schools, and even jobs. Racial profiling is a harsh condition to be a part of. It can also affect any human being spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Sometimes even financially.
